FARS Online Application Procedures for Applicants

(Firearms Application Registration System)

Step 1: Visit this website: www.njportal.com/NJSP/fars

Step 2: Enter Wanaque Police Department ORI #: NJ0161300 /Service Code: 2F164B

Step 3: Complete the online application. You may complete the application using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer. When completing the application, you will need the email addresses of 2 reputable references. Your references can be family members. **PLEASE DO NOT TAKE A PHOTO OF YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE, A PASSPORT STYLE PHOTO IS NEEDED**

Step 4: You will be contacted by the Wanaque Police Department and instructed to pay for your Initial FID Card and/or Pistol Purchase Permits (there is no fee for duplicate/lost cards or address changes). Your application cannot be processed until you have paid for your FID Card ($50.00) and/or Pistol Permit(s) ($25.00 per permit) Each permit is good for 180 days and you can purchase 1 handgun every 30 days.

Check or money order made payable to: The Wanaque Police Department. NO CASH ACCEPTED. Please be advised that fees are non-refundable regardless of final outcome (approvals, denials or withdrawals).

You will be receiving automated email updates throughout this process. Once your application is approved, you will receive an automated email with a PDF of your FID Card and/or confirmation that your permit/s are ready to be executed.

Please advise your references that the FARS system will email them the reference questions to be answered. Your references can complete the questionnaire using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desk computer. Please advise them to complete the survey immediately so that your background investigation progresses without delay.

The on-line application is applicant driven. Please ensure that you have entered the best phone numbers for yourself and references as well as the best email addresses for yourself and references.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are unsure if an arrest resulted in a conviction, be sure to list ANY and ALL prior arrests. Falsification of the application is a crime of the third degree as provided in NJS 2C:39-10C

Application Process for Electronic Concealed Carry Permit

The NJ Firearms application process for concealed carry permits is now an automated web-based process. Applicant access has been placed online to streamline the process and to keep applicants informed of the progress of the application. This new system is designed to decrease your wait time for permit to carry.

The online application is applicant user driven, so please ensure that you have entered the accurate information, phone numbers for yourself and references also include the most up to date email addresses for yourself and references. Incorrect information submitted to the online portal may require your application to be withdrawn.

Fees paid are NON-REFUNDABLE.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING CONCEALED CARRY ONLINE PORTAL

Be sure to read all instructions before beginning the process.

Step 1: To start the process of the Concealed Carry Application, click the link below

Step 2: When you log on, you must enter the Wanaque Police Department’s ORI #: NJ0161300

Please ensure that the agency ORI number is correct on the form. If an incorrect ORI number is entered on the form, you will NOT receive a Permit to Carry. You will then have to re-apply using the correct ORI number and pay for the process again. A refund cannot be issued.

Step 3: Complete the online application. You may complete the application using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desk computer. When completing the application, you will need the email addresses of four (4) reputable references not related by blood or law. Your references can complete the questionnaire using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer. The new system will email to the listed references a series of questions that need to be answered accurately and truthfully for the application to be considered valid. Please advise your listed references to complete the questions as soon as possible to make sure your background investigation starts in a timely fashion.

Step 4: Print out your application AND confirmation page that was emailed to you and bring to the police department with a CHECK or MONEY ORDER for payment reflected on your application. Checks and Money Orders shall be made out to Wanaque Police Department, NO CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED. Your application will not be processed until we have received payment and confirmation page. A non-refundable payment is required to be made prior to the completion of the background as per NJAC 13:54-1.4.
