2024 DIVERSITY PLAN: Diversity in Law Enforcement Recruiting and Hiring
The Wanaque Police Department will continue to strive to increase underrepresented groups in our hiring process. We will continue to utilize Civil Service Eligibility Lists, Alternate Route Candidates and IGT eligible officers. In 2024 the Police Department has participated in a career fair at William Paterson College and School Resource Officer led classes at the local high school encourage seniors to explore careers in law enforcement. All promotional exams are administered through the NJ State Civil Service Commission. The State Civil Service Commission scores the promotional tests and releases the results in rank order. The reported results are used in the promotional process.
The Wanaque Police Department began wearing Body Worn Cameras in December 2021 on patrol. The cameras are equipped for video and audio collection and will be used to help accurately document interactions between our officers and the public. Starting May 2023 our cameras were upgraded to Safe Fleet FOCUS X2's. They help in the collection of evidence, provide additional transparency to the public and show the great work our officers do on a daily basis, all while providing an opportunity for training on the areas where we can improve. The officer’s use of the body worn cameras will adhere to the guidelines set forth by the New Jersey Attorney Generals Guidelines, Passaic County Prosecutors Office and the policies of the Wanaque Police Department.
